Genetic Testing

We offer genetic testing for our patients currently working with our providers as part of their ongoing treatment. This is an optional add-on service designed to enhance the effectiveness of psychiatric medication management by tailoring treatments to each patient’s unique genetic profile.

Whether you’re looking to optimize your current medication regimen, minimize side effects, or considering medication as part of your treatment plan, genetic testing provides valuable insights to guide these decisions.

We offer two types of genetic testing, which vary by clinic and provider:

  • GeneSight Psychotropic Test
  • Tempus Pharmacogenomic Testing (PGx)

Genetic testing is an integral part of the comprehensive care we provide, ensuring personalized and effective treatment for our patients.

The GeneSight Psychotropic Test

The GeneSight Psychotropic Test is a genetic test that shows your healthcare provider how your genes may affect your outcomes with commonly prescribed mental health medications. The test provides personalized information about which medications may require dose adjustments, be less likely to work, or have an increased risk of side effects.

Is the GeneSight test right for you?

  • Has a mental health medication failed you in the past?
  • Is your current mental health medication not working?
  • Does your mental health medication cause unwanted side effects?

What is the GeneSight test process?

Step 1: The GeneSight test sample is collected by a simple cheek swab
Step 2: Your sample is sent to the GeneSight lab for analysis and your provider will typically receive your results in about two days
Step 3: Your healthcare provider will review your results with you at your next appointment

How much does the GeneSight test cost?

  • Many insurance plans, including Medicare, often cover the entire or a significant portion of the cost of the test.
  • Financial assistance plans are available for eligible patients to help cover the cost of the test.
  • Interest-free payment plans are offered and allow patients to spread payments out over a 12-month period.
  • For more information on cost, including a cost estimator, visit genesight.com/cost.

Tempus Pharmacogenomic Testing

Relief Mental Health uses pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing to create a personalized mental health treatment plan for you. PGx testing can help assess the effectiveness of your mental health treatment plan so that adjustments can be made.

Pharmacogenomic Testing

Pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing provides information on how your genes may affect the way your body responds to certain medications. This information can then be used by your doctor to help create a treatment plan for you based
on your unique DNA.

PGx testing can help your doctor determine how your body may metabolize certain medications and how you may experience certain side effects from certain medications. This information can be used as a factor to help your doctor decide which medication to use and at what dose this medication should be prescribed. PGx testing can be used in several areas of medicine such as oncology, gastroenterology and psychiatry. In psychiatry, PGx testing can be used to inform the treatment plan for patients experiencing depression, ADHD and other mental health diagnoses.

About Tempus

Tempus is an advanced genetic testing tool that is used to personalize mental health treatment plans. The Tempus genetic test gives your doctor evidence based gene-drug interactions based on guidelines from the FDA, Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium, PharmGKB, and Dutch Pharmacogenetics Working Group.

With this test, your provider can understand how your body may respond to certain medications in order to create a personalized treatment plan that is specific to your DNA makeup. Tempus genetic testing can save you trial and error
when it comes to getting the relief you need.

The Tempus genetic test sample can be provided in one of two ways:

Option 1: A sample for the genetic test is collected in your care provider’s office.

Option 2: A collection kit for the genetic test is sent to your home. If a collection kit is sent to your home, you will receive detailed instructions within the kit on how to correctly provide your cheek swab sample.
