Quantitative electroencephalogram, is a non-invasive diagnostic test that measures the brain’s electrical activity to identify communication patterns between brain regions.
This brain map reveals areas that are functioning properly alongside those with disrupted signals, often presenting as “crossed signals” or “misfiring” within the brain’s electrical pathways. This detailed map is a valuable tool used for improving accuracy of diagnosis and treatment planning for TMS patients. It helps our psychiatrists understand the origins of brain-based diagnoses, guiding precise treatment plans, informed medication decisions, and personalized protocols for advanced therapies like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
While QEEG can provide additional insight, it’s not intended to be a standalone diagnosis. It also has some limitations, including the need for subjective evaluation of the visual data.
QEEG is a resting study with no active participation required. During the test, you’ll simply rest comfortably or sleep during the test. Electrodes are gently attached to your head to record brain activity. This process, performed at select Illinois clinics, takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, providing a thorough yet comfortable experience.
