Michael McDowell, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, MSBA, MBA is a seasoned psychiatric nurse practitioner at Relief Mental Health, where he provides expert care to children ages 6+, adolescents and adults at both our Oak Brook and St. Charles clinics. With more than 12 years of experience, Dr. McDowell specializes in medication management for a variety of diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, insomnia and more. He is also highly skilled in administering SPRAVATO®, an intranasal esketamine therapy and the only FDA-approved psychedelic treatment on the market designed to aid patients with treatment-resistant depression or major depression with suicidal thoughts or actions.

Dr. McDowell’s journey in healthcare began in 2012; since then, he has been dedicated to serving patients of all ages across diverse populations. Board certified as both a family nurse practitioner and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Dr. McDowell’s commitment to inclusivity extends to his fluency in English and Spanish, enabling him to effectively communicate and connect with underserved communities throughout his career.

Dr. McDowell’s academic achievements include a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill., a Certificate of Advanced Study in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., and nursing degrees (MSN and BSN) from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill. Beyond his medical credentials, Dr. McDowell holds a Master of Science in business analytics and a Master of Business Administration, reflecting his multifaceted approach to healthcare and business management.
