Maggie Schauer, PA-C
Maggie Schauer, PA-C, is a compassionate and board-certified physician assistant at Relief Mental Health in West Allis, Wisconsin, dedicated to providing exceptional mental health care. Maggie specializes in working with a diverse patient population, spanning from preteens to teens, adults, and elders (65+). She offers a comprehensive approach to medication management, supportive psychotherapy that emphasizes active listening and the strengthening of coping skills, and SPRAVATO® (esketamine) for patients struggling with treatment-resistant depression or major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts or actions.
With a wealth of experience and training, Maggie is well-equipped to address a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-harming behaviors, suicidal ideation, trauma/PTSD, OCD, insomnia and sleep disorders, thought disorders, and personality disorders. Her particular expertise lies in the treatment of depression and anxiety through medication management.
Maggie places great importance on the clinician-patient relationship, understanding its pivotal role in boosting self-esteem and relieving symptoms of mental illness.
Maggie holds a Master of Science in physician assistant studies from Des Moines University in Iowa and completed a post-graduate psychiatric fellowship for physician assistants at the University of Iowa. During this fellowship, she gained hands-on experience across various psychiatric subspecialties, including inpatient and outpatient care, crisis management, emergency psychiatry, interventional psychiatry, addiction medicine, and DBT. Her academic journey began with an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
Beyond her professional commitments, Maggie finds joy in activities such as cycling, running, triathlons, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, and reading. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Associates, the national professional society for physician associates/physician assistants.
As a valued member of the Relief clinician team, Maggie collaborates closely with our other providers in West Allis to ensure that patients have access to various treatment options when necessary, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and talk therapy.
