Bess Levin, MD is a dedicated and compassionate board-certified psychiatrist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of various psychiatric conditions. With a focus on adult mental health, she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her practice, particularly in areas such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Based in our vibrant Chicago West Loop clinic, Dr. Levin specializes in cutting-edge treatments, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and SPRAVATO® (esketamine) for treatment-resistant depression and other diagnoses. She also provides medication management services for adults. Dr. Levin believes in tailoring each patient’s treatment plan to their unique needs, employing an evidence-based and collaborative approach. She understands that every individual’s journey toward better mental health is distinct, whether they are seeking treatment for the first time or exploring new options after other treatments have proven ineffective.
As a board-certified general adult psychiatrist, Dr. Levin completed her residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she received comprehensive training in the pharmacologic management of various conditions, ranging from mood disorders and anxiety disorders to women’s mental health, substance use disorders, and psychotic disorders. Following her residency, she served as a staff psychiatrist in a Chicago area hospital, where she gained valuable experience in providing comprehensive mental health care in an inpatient setting. This experience further enriched her clinical skills and solidified her commitment to helping individuals navigate the complexities of their mental health journeys.
Dr. Levin places a high value on building strong therapeutic alliances with her patients and adopts a holistic approach to mental health treatment. Her therapeutic toolkit includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches, and she is adept at working with diverse populations, including veterans and the LGBTQ community.
Dr. Levin holds a medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Actively engaged in her professional community, she is a member of the American Psychiatric Association.
Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Levin enjoys exploring the diverse culinary scene in Chicago, cooking, and traveling. Her passion for understanding different cultures and experiences is reflected in her approach to patient care, where she strives to meet individuals wherever they are on their journey to improved mental health.
