Psychiatry & Medication Management
About Medication Management
We see patients with established diagnoses that need continued psychiatric care as well as patients seeking a diagnosis for the first time. Psychiatric medication is not the right fit for everyone but many find success by adding medication to their plan of care. Because many psychiatric medications are long term, having a provider that specializes in this type of prescribing is crucial.
Our team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants have unique treatment experience. Finding the right provider can be the catalyst to great results. For more information about an individual provider, call our intake line and we will match you with the right fit.
Relief Mental Health offers both in office and telehealth visits to be able to provide flexibility that fits into your life. Our team will develop a treatment plan tailored to your diagnosis and needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
It’s normal to have a lot of questions about your mental well-being. Our psychiatry team is always happy to answer questions via phone or face-to-face, but here are quick answers to our most frequent questions.
What diagnoses are typically treated with medication?
Diagnoses often treated with medication include, but are not limited to:
- Depression
- Obsessive compulsive disorder
- Anxiety
- Bipolar disorder
- Eating disorders
- Personality disorders
- PTSD
- ADHD
How can I prepare for an initial appointment?
To make the most of your appointment, take the following steps beforehand:
- Write down a list of your symptoms to help facilitate a direct and informative conversation.
- Prepare any important medical or mental health records your doctor may need.
- Make a list of your medications, and why you take them. Or you can bring your medication to your appointment in their prescription bottles. If you’re unsure about your current medication and/or medication history, your pharmacy may be able to generate a list of medications you’ve been prescribed.
- Write down questions about your diagnosis, treatment, and any available assessments. We’re open to exploring alternative care and innovative approaches to treatment.
What do I do in the event of an emergency related to a prescribed medication?
If a rash develops after starting a new medication, stop taking the medication and contact the office to make a follow-up appointment ASAP. We’ll fit you into an emergency opening.
If you have trouble breathing, stop the medication immediately and call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Once you have proper medical attention, call us to make a follow-up appointment ASAP.
Other side effects may occur after starting a new medication. If you’re worried or the situation feels urgent or feels like an emergency, contact your primary care provider/pediatrician immediately or go to the nearest emergency room.
How can I request prescription refills?
Pharmacies may send refill requests via fax. However, faxes from pharmacies may take up to 5 business days to process.
If you need refills, please call your respective clinic. This number should have been given to you during your appointment.
Your adherence to treatment is an important factor when reviewing refill requests. In order for your provider to safely prescribe and refill medication, your provider must have established care and you must attend your scheduled appointments consistently. Multiple no-shows or cancellations may lead to a denial of your refill request until you participate in an in-person evaluation during a scheduled appointment.
Controlled substance refill requests – for stimulants, benzodiazepines, hypnotics, and opioids – are monitored consistently to ensure appropriate use according to your treatment plan. Early refills of controlled substances are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please assume refills of stimulants will only be provided during in-person visits.
Is there anything else I need to know about getting refills?
When you call us for a refill, please leave your contact information on our voicemail in case we have any questions. Please understand that your medications will only be filled until your next appointment. Therefore, you must follow your treatment plan: if you need a refill in one month, schedule your follow up appointment accordingly.
We process medication refill requests received by 2:00 pm before close of business on that day. We process requests received after 2:00 pm on the next business day. Please account for recognized holidays when planning your refill requests.
We assess a service charge for refills missed due to missed or cancelled appointments. We expect you to make and keep appointments before you use all your medication. This helps us monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to the medication component of your treatment plan.
Prescriptions for Schedule II Controlled Substances must be brought to your pharmacy and filled within 90 days.
YOU MUST REQUEST A REFILL EVERY 30 DAYS FOR THESE MEDICATIONS.
THEY CANNOT BE AUTOMATICALLY REFILLED.
Schedule II controlled substances include, but are not limited to the following*:
- Amphetamine/amphetamine salts (ADDERALL)
- Methylphenidate (RITALIN, CONCERTA, METHYLIN, METADATE)
- Dextroamphetamine (DEXEDRINE)
- Dexmethylphenidate (FOCALIN)
- Buprenorphine (SUBUTEX/SUBOXONE)
*Depending on medication, some prescriptions, by law, must be filled within 60days*
Please remember this important fact: we’re here to help you achieve your goals every step of the way. If you have questions or concerns about your medication – it’s working, it’s not working, you think it could work better – please either call us or share your insights and ideas with your provider. We’ll work with you to ensure you receive the best care possible.
Our Psychiatry Providers
Psychiatrists are medical doctors (M.D.) or doctors of osteopathy (D.O.) who specialize in the treatment and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral diagnoses. In addition, our medical staff includes physician assistants (PA), psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNP), and nurse practitioners (NP).
Many of our providers recommend a GeneSight test to determine medication tolerance.
