EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL – Oak Brook, IL

Barney is a registered emotional support animal (ESA) at Relief Mental Health in Oak Brook, Illinois. Barney plays a vital role in supporting patients undergoing transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), SPRAVATO® and IV ketamine treatments. With his heartwarming presence, he brings comfort and solace to those who need it most.

At approximately seven years old, Barney has a remarkable story of rescue and redemption. In 2019, he embarked on a journey all the way from Turkey to find his forever home here in the states. This adventure would lead him to his true calling—working alongside his owner and favorite human, our Nurse Practitioner Caitlin Strebing.

Barney’s mission is simple: to bring smiles and serenity to the faces of Relief’s patients. His warm and inviting nature immediately puts people at ease. Barney is an expert in the art of receiving pets and affection. In fact, he adores it so much that he’s been known to gently nudge those around him when they momentarily pause in their pampering duties.

Barney is an indispensable part of the Relief Mental Health team, spreading joy, warmth, and love to all who cross his path. With his endearing personality and soothing presence, he reminds us all of the power of unconditional love and the healing that can come from a simple act of kindness – or a few minutes of quality petting.
